Dyspraxia DCD workshop overview
Dyspraxia, also known as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), affects how people coordinate their movements, making everyday tasks like writing, tying shoelaces, or even walking feel tricky. This training focuses on improving motor skills, both fine (like handwriting or using scissors) and gross (like balancing or running). Fun activities like doing crafts, playing with building blocks, or even jumping on a trampoline can help improve coordination, while sensory exercises like swinging or using weighted toys can make movement feel more comfortable.
Simple exercises like repeating sentences or practicing slow speech can make a huge difference in clarity.
From a social and emotional viewpoint, self esteem activities helps people manage frustration, anxiety, and low self-esteem that sometimes come with dyspraxia. It teaches strategies like goal setting, positive self-talk, and relaxation techniques to keep things calm and focused.
Making a few environmental changes can really make life smoother. Things like using special pens or keeping spaces organized can take the stress out of everyday tasks. Plus, practicing daily living skills—like getting dressed or following a routine—helps build independence. Some social skills practice and support from friends or peers, and people with dyspraxia can start feeling more confident and capable.
